My Marathon

April 3, 2010

I am going to run a marathon.

I wanted to run a marathon because It’s something something I never thought I’d do. Before beginning training I’d never run more then a mile in my entire life. I want to be healthy and I want to make sure I’m living my life to the fullest.

There were people in my life that never had a chance to run a marathon and I want to do it for them. In my sophomore year of college I had two friends from High School die in a car accident. It was incredibly shocking and sudden. Two weeks later I lost a very special family friend, William Heaton to leukemia. He was seven years old. There is not a day I don’t think of him. A few weeks after that I lost another friend, Keely Rose, to cancer just before her 19th birthday. Her mom and I got very close, sitting in the ICU with her. We were both holding her hands as she took her last breath. In that moment everything I thought I knew about the world changed.

Both my Grandmother and my Mother SURVIVED cancer, so compared to what they went through 26.2 miles is nothing.

So I’m going to run a marathon. For Jeff and Kyle. For Will. For Keely. For my Grandma. For my Mom. And for me.

Keep me accountable. If you’d like to go for a run sometime, let me know. I’m still pretty slow.

This shoot is over a year old, I just never blogged it… and they are too cute not to blog! Elysha and Peter got married this past summer but before I left for Seattle I was able to take some engagement photos of them in San Luis Obispo. So enjoy.

Yes I said the f word :)

I’m a film lover and always will be. I started on a 35mm slr when I was 13 and I’ve always had a soft spot for film. After I got my digital baby I gave up film for a while so I could master the digital world. Not to say that I’m anywhere close to mastering but I’m pretty proud of the fact I broke my first shutter last month :)

I got a Canon AE-1 Program as a lovely gift from my Aunt-in-law. It was her very first SLR. I took it out a month or two ago to shoot a test roll and the images came back lovely! So I wanted to bring it along for fun to see if I could get anything good out of it on an engagement shoot. It’s a manual focus. Tricky when you are shooting people. I’m pretty excited anything turned out honestly. Especially after I accidentally over exposed the whole roll. Yeah, it was pretty scary. It didn’t wind up like it should (you have to roll it manually and the end of the film popped out of the roll) so I opened it up to see what the issue was. I know, not a smart move and I realized that as soon as I did it. So I dove into the bathroom with all the lights out and rolled up the film by hand. Somehow images did turn out, although a few were more light leaky then I’d hoped. It also looks like the insides need a good cleaning, so now I just need to figure out how to take it apart.

Anywaysss on to images. Only edited for the layout and a tad bit of contrast added to some that got a little overexposed.
