Yes I said the f word :)

I’m a film lover and always will be. I started on a 35mm slr when I was 13 and I’ve always had a soft spot for film. After I got my digital baby I gave up film for a while so I could master the digital world. Not to say that I’m anywhere close to mastering but I’m pretty proud of the fact I broke my first shutter last month :)

I got a Canon AE-1 Program as a lovely gift from my Aunt-in-law. It was her very first SLR. I took it out a month or two ago to shoot a test roll and the images came back lovely! So I wanted to bring it along for fun to see if I could get anything good out of it on an engagement shoot. It’s a manual focus. Tricky when you are shooting people. I’m pretty excited anything turned out honestly. Especially after I accidentally over exposed the whole roll. Yeah, it was pretty scary. It didn’t wind up like it should (you have to roll it manually and the end of the film popped out of the roll) so I opened it up to see what the issue was. I know, not a smart move and I realized that as soon as I did it. So I dove into the bathroom with all the lights out and rolled up the film by hand. Somehow images did turn out, although a few were more light leaky then I’d hoped. It also looks like the insides need a good cleaning, so now I just need to figure out how to take it apart.

Anywaysss on to images. Only edited for the layout and a tad bit of contrast added to some that got a little overexposed.

The lovely and insanely talented Kristen Marie let me tag along for an engagement shoot in downtown. I brought my holga along and took some shots on the waterfront. Just got the film back yesterday and yummmm.

enjoy

This was my first trip over to Bainbridge Island since moving to Seattle. I am so in love! The island is super amazing. It feels like a small town where everyone knows each other. I love the ferry too. I remember visting Seattle when I was a little kid and I though that ferries were the coolest things ever. I had a great time on my trip over- there was this adorable little girl throwing bread out for the seagulls so they were acting all crazy and flying super close to the boat. I got some really funny photos of them.

Mikal grew up on Bainbridge and her parents house is incredible! They built this great little fire pit area right off the beach and all I could think about was making some s’mores :) And the view was breathtaking. I have never seen Seattle look more beautiful!

The day was gorgeous. These guys decided to ride the Chilly Hilly that day before I came over for our shoot which I thought was pretty hardcore. Mikal got a flat tire on the way home but they had a blast biking around the island. After showers, the Olympic hockey game and an amazing makeup job by Hayley VanCleave we headed out all over the island to take some pretty pictures.

First we went down the beach that is right out Mikal’s parents backdoor. I love driftwood, how it’s worn down and bleached out from years of sitting out on the beach. Every piece is different and unique. It made for some really cute photos of Mikal and Charlie’s adorable puppy Gracie.

Charlie is one funny guy- he will be making Mikal laugh for a long time <3 He was a little apprehensive about engagement photos when I first met him but I think he had a good time with it. Even when the US lost the game :)

Pure sweetness. And how gorgeous are Mikal’s eyes!!! Seriously amazingly blue.

Can you believe how nice the light was! mmmm buttery goodness on some honey whole grain!

these next two images are sooooo fierce-sauce and yes there is such a sauce.

these are just awesome-sauce

this is how love should look <3

one last image of these two… Mikal and Charlie I can’t WAIT for your wedding in May!!!

It was so clear as the sun was going down.

Mr. Rainier you’ve never looked so good

On the ferry ride home I had to be a crazy tourist and get the skyline shot- it was just too cool. I know I’m a dork :)

I’m totally printing this for my office on a canvas wrap…

Thanks for staying with me the whole way. That was an epic post. Look forward to more epic-ness soon as I try and become a better, and more frequent, blogger.

The epic fabulous-ness of yesterday cannot be described.  Here is a peek to what will surely be the longest blog post ever…

OhmygoshIamsoexcited! I got the opportunity to visit Sodo Park with one of my lovely brides who’s getting married there in May. It is a dream come true in a venue! It’s rustic and charming and the light in there is so magical!

I just can’t wait to shoot her fabulous wedding there! Here are a few photos I took on our tour…

You can see how beautiful the light is in all these photos…

The top left photo is the head table- it’s like a solid pice of wood! There are so many backgrounds to shoot with, I’m not going to run out of inspiration. I’ve heard their food is pretty amazing too- I can’t wait to try it!
